The best cake shops in Madrid to enjoy a delicious roscón

By | 10 January, 2017 | 0 comments

Turrón, marzipan, polvorones… We love Christmas sweets, they are all delicious! However, there is one in particular that keeps us waiting: the Kings roscón!. Filled with cream, chocolate, truffle or even with nothing at all, this delicious cake starts to appear behind the windows of cake shops on New Year’s Day of every year. If you want to try it, we recommend this route around Madrid’s cake shops which specialise in this delicious dessert.

Casa Mira. Carrera de San Jerónimo, 30

This cake shop opened in 1855 and its creations are so delicious that it became the official cake provider of the Spanish Royal Family from the reign of Isabel II in the mid-1800s until the reign of Alfonso XIII in the early 1900s. You won’t have any trouble finding a 100% natural roscón as well as having the chance to buy all kinds of cakes sold by weight in an atmosphere that will take you back in time.

La Mallorquina. Puerta del Sol, 8

Without doubt, one of Madrid’s most popular cake shops and quite rightly so, since it’s located in the heart of Puerta del Sol. Its shop window is a show in itself and its interior is always full of tourists who are eager to try their most traditional sweets, such as the marzipan eels decorated with peladillas. And, of course, the famous roscón! Delicious!

El Riojano. Calle Mayor, 10

Another of Madrid’s traditional shops dedicated to sweets. With more than 100 years of history, this shop delights locals and visitors with its turrón, marzipan and delicatessen such as marron glacé chestnuts and, for this year, pastries filled with Orsero-pineapple marmalade. Food worthy of the gods!

La Duquesita. Calle Fernando VI

We move away from the city centre to the Justicia district, where La Duquesita offers those with a sweet tooth a wide range of unique turrones. Oriol Balaguer is the master chocolatier whose hands create signature turrones made of chocolate, almonds, raspberry, orange… a delight to all senses! Also, you can buy a spectacular roscón and try one of the best panettone in Madrid. What are you waiting for to visit La Duquesita?
