An excellent plate of cocido to warm up your body

By | 25 January, 2017 | 0 comments

Madrid gets cold in January and there must be something other than turrón, marzipan and polvorones to warm up your body, right? Well, since you’re in Madrid, what better to warm up than a nice traditional place of cocido! Here are a few places where you can try the most delicious recipes in the Spanish capital.

El Cocido de Carmen. Calle Ibiza, 40

This restaurant in the Ibiza district only serves cocido, so anyone who thought about ordering something different might have to go somewhere else. The feast starts with delicious cocido croquettes and continue with a big plate of soup, chickpeas and meats such as Galician beef shank, free-range chicken, bacon and Iberian pancetta. A guaranteed way of warming up your body!

El Palacio de Cibeles. Plaza de Cibeles, 1

Is there anything better than enjoying a delicious cocido with a view of Cibeles? Well, at Restaurante Palacio de Cibeles, you can do exactly this, since they serve Cocido Cibelino every Thursday, made according to the traditional recipe, with a touch of peppermint and served in a stew pot alongside the meats (pringá). Are you drooling yet?

Taberna y Media. Lope de Rueda, 30.

If you are looking for a low-fat cocido, this is the place for you. Here, they serve a degreased cocido to make it lighter (as light as a cocido can be!), but it includes all of its complements: delicious broth and chickpeas accompanied by chili peppers, chives and grated tomato. Delicious!

Ponzano. Calle Ponzano, 12

In the heart of the Chamberí district you can find this temple of local cocido, a cocido so traditional that you will feel it was made at home for you, because here they only cook with fresh produce. Also, wine, dessert and coffee are included in the more-than-reasonable price.

Lhardy. Carrera de San Jerónimo, 8

We could not finish this cocido tour without mentioning Lhardy, the authentic cocido temple in Madrid. There will be better and worse ones but none as luxurious as the one you can enjoy at this restaurant, served on a silver platter and accompanied by a delicious white sausage that will make your mouth water. You will want to keep coming back.

Which of these excellent restaurants are you going to choose to try this delicious local delicacy?
