Literary presentations: live books

By | 15 April, 2016 | 0 comments

Literary presentations are becoming increasingly popular in Madrid because, if you see actors live in a theatre and musicians on a stage, why not also see writers explaining the origin of their novel and its main points?

There are many different bookshops who host these presentations. Tipos Infames is one of the most representative ones if not the pioneer one, located in the central Calle de San Joaquín, 3, in Malasaña. Authors such as Manuel Jabois, Elvira Lindo and even Micah P. Hinson, a musician who also dabbles in literature; have presented their books there.

La Central in Callao is another reference in the world of literary presentations and events, of which you can find a full list here. El Garito, located in the basement, is where most presentations take place as well as poetry recitals and even concerts. Also make sure you visit the café, known as El Bistró, which serves original menus and a variety of cakes to accompany a good coffee in the excellent company of books. O Cervantes y Compañía, on Calle del Pez, 27, has become a popular choice among emerging writers in recent times for hosting their book presentations.

Crime novel lovers, of which there are many, see Burma as an excellent place to buy their books and also to meet those who write them. They also organise writing workshops and book clubs of short duration, such as the one dedicated to the novel Soldiers of Salamis by Javier Cercas, which is scheduled for May 11th from 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. for just 10 euros.

Los Editores is a new bookshop that, in the brief time it has existed, has already become a regular in literary presentations. Check out the activities on their website and social media. “We like to read” is their motto.
