Discover Madrid’s most charming street markets
If we mention Madrid and street markets, the first thing that comes to mind is El Rastro. However, the Spanish capital has many street markets for all tastes you can visit. Here are five recommendations that you have to check out if you decide to spend a few days in the city.
The first name on the list on its own merit. Like we just said, this is without doubt Madrid’s street market par excellence. Every Sunday, locals and tourists alike walk along its over 1,000 stalls which make up this market located in the district of La Latina. You can find different items, from crafts and clothes to accessories, although antiques and auctions are the most traditional part of it. After visiting the market, you can recharge your batteries with a drink and some nice food in the many bars which surround it.
The perfect plan for an unforgettable and fun day. It takes place on the second weekend of every month (August excluded) at the Railway Museum (Delicias is the nearest metro station). Here, you can find professional vendors, designers and designer products, vintage, gourmet and fashion items, etc. On top of it all, you can see some old trains and enjoy live music while you sample some of the gastronomic creations sold by the food trucks in the food area.
A unique market based on the new Pop-up concept. You can find it in one of Madrid’s most emblematic buildings, where many exhibitors sell fashion items and accessories for all ages, crafts, vintage clothes, decorative objects, art, etc. Foodies are also in luck since the market has a gourmet area, GastroGato, where you can enjoy the best cuisine. Monthly market which takes place in Plaza Matadero in Madrid that gathers over 90 artisans who sell organic products and crafts of the highest quality: cheeses, extra virgin olive oil, sourdough bread, craft beer, etc., an excellent option for foodies. It also has an area with tables and chairs where you can eat everything you bought.
Even though we can only enjoy this market during Saturdays in spring time, it had to make our list. Here, you can find different products from entrepreneurs who aren’t afraid to break the mould, crush barriers and offer unique and unusual products. To complete its programme, it has many activities so you can enjoy a great day: acoustic concerts, workshops, competitions and activities for children.
