Christmas in Madrid

By | 9 December, 2017 | 0 comments

Madrid is a wonderful city to visit at any time of year, but in December it becomes an ideal destination for the whole family because the City Council does everything it can so that the city’s streets and squares shine bright. Don’t miss out on visiting Madrid at Christmas!

Christmas lights in Madrid

Once again this Christmas, Madrid is covering its streets and buildings with thousands of colourful Christmas lights. However, this year, the Spanish capital has made sure it complies with environmentally friendly and energy-efficient regulations, making all Christmas lights energy-saving. Pretty and environmentally friendly, what more could you ask for?

From November 24 until January 6, all of Madrid’s visitors will be able to enjoy this show of light and colour which this year will have brand-new designs. And so, from Cibeles to the popular Puerta de Alcalá the lighting will represent Madrid’s sky full of stars. Calle Serrano, known for its exclusive fashion boutiques, will have special lights which will evoke the different fabrics with which its coveted fashion items are made of.

Also worthy of a mention are the fantastic decorated Christmas trees on Red de San Luis, Calle Montera, Plaza de Callao and Plaza Colón.

Christmas in Madrid means tall Christmas trees, and you can find some of the most impressive ones in Puerta del Sol, Plaza de San Juan de la Cruz, Plaza de España and Calle Fuencarral. Huge, colourful and shiny, a masterpiece of colour and fantasy. Don’t miss out!

And to make sure you have all the information, note down the complete timetable of the Christmas lighting in Madrid:

Sunday to Wednesday: 6.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m.

Thursday to Saturday and holiday eves: 6.00 p.m. to midnight.

If you still want more and want to carry on fully enjoying Madrid at Christmas, go to the Procession of Light, which will take place on December 21 in Madrid Río, with dozens of paper lanterns and other items filled with light and colour that will go from Puente de Segovia to Puente del Rey.
