Meriendas con encanto (y libros)

The tradition of taking a break mid-afternoon to recharge batteries for the rest of the day and have enough strength for the rest of the day should be recovered. In Madrid, there is a series of places where you can enjoy this healthy habit which is even better if accompanied by a book. Write down this name: Monpassa (Costanilla de los Desamparados, 13), where Montse and Patri offer a literary atmosphere and delicious cakes, such as the carrot cake or chocolate cake with Smarties.

Not far from there, on Calle Santa Isabel, 7, is La Fugitiva, a place where you can enjoy a selection of teas and homemade cakes (the Dostoyevsky cake, made from vegan chocolate, is especially good). It is a place filled with books and, like any good bookshop, it comes with recommendations from the owners. Sought-after owner Clea will advise you to perfection on which book to read, especially the classics.

If by any chance it was full, go to the nearby La Infinito, a pleasant a cosy little place that serve homemade cakes, cookies, fruit balls and a large selection of tea and coffee. Make sure you check out its programme because there are regular events and surprises, such as poetry recitals, clowns or storytelling sessions.

Another pleasant place for an afternoon snack is Lolina Café Vintage (Calle Espíritu Santo, 9) or La Fiambrera, on Calle Pez. These places combine art and decoration artifacts with an excellent selection of books, good coffee and delicious homemade cakes. Just as pleasant is La Ciudad Invisible (Costanilla de los Ángeles, 7), a space located in the nearby area of Plaza de Santo Domingo which is also an art gallery for up-and-coming artists.

For those with a sweet tooth, Sugar Factory is a place where it seems that even the abundant and cotton-candy-like decoration fills you up. You can find it on Calle Argensola, 24, along with an excellent selection of cupcake and muffins not suitable for those on a diet.

These are all places that fall into this new “cosy fashion” which has considerably grown in our city. Come and enjoy it when you stay in our hotel with terrace in Madrid.
