Three things to do in Madrid during the summer

In July and August, many Madrilenians swap the city for the beach. However, the capital is full of leisure and cultural activities during these two months. If you find yourself in the city, don’t miss these three cool and entertaining things to do.

Summer cinema

One of the most popular summer activities is summer cinema. There’s nothing better than spending an evening in the open air watching the best national and international films. Madrid’s neighbourhoods offer a wide range of options, such as the Moratalaz neighbourhood (in Parque de la Cuña Verde, every Saturday at 10pm) with films such as ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore‘ and ‘Elvis‘; the Salamanca neighbourhood (in Parque de Eva Duarte on Fridays at 10pm), with films selected by young people from the district, such as ‘Father There Is Only One 3‘ or ‘Parallel Mothers‘; and the Hortaleza neighbourhood (at Auditorio Pilar García Peña from 23 June to 9 September), with titles such as ‘The Artist‘ or ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel‘.

Concerts and beers at the Patio Mahou

Located in the Fundación Ortega y Gasset, the Patio de Mahou is celebrating its third edition this summer. This is a cool option for an enjoyable evening of beer, good food and excellent music. The musical line-up includes concerts by Bely Basarte, Bernat Cuyás Vilá, Sebastián Cortés or aka Bernarda, as well as the best DJ sessions by DJ Albertini, DJ Booking Fee or DJ Say Yes, among others. Entrance is free and you can enjoy this event until 15 September. 

Formula 1: The Exhibition

Until 20 August, you can enjoy Spain’s largest temporary exhibition on Formula 1. Tickets start at €13.99 and are available at IFEMA. This exhibition has been organised by the most prestigious personalities in the sport. It has some immersive areas for young people, such as interactive and educational displays, a Formula 1 film archive and a series of fascinating cinematic experiences.
