Christmas Lights
Madrid’s Christmas lights can be enjoyed from 22 December when lights of all colours flood the streets, squares and buildings of the city. Don’t miss the traditional Christmas trees that twinkle at night in the Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Plaza de España and Plaza Colón. New for this year is a giant 12-metre illuminated ball located between Calle Alcalá and Gran Via.
If you are a Christmas light fanatic, don’t miss the Christmas garden at the Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid that can be seen until 6 January. Take a night-time walk through the beautiful gardens and enjoy the illuminated display.
Christmas food and drink in Ventas
If you want to extend the Christmas spirit into the evening, this is the activity for you. This evening of food and drink will take place on 24 December from 13:00 to 19:00 at El Invernadero on the Plaza de Toros ini Las Ventas. As well as offering a variety of traditional festive food and drink, there will be several live performances by the flamenco group Cosita Wena and DJs Mickey Pavón and Adrián Lozano. It has limited capacity, so order your free invitation from the following link. Without doubt, it is one of the best ways to kickstart Christmas.
We round off our Christmas suggestions with an activity to enjoy with the family. This year, there will be a Santa’s grotto in the La Latina neighbourhood. Children will be able to enter Santa’s grotto and let him know how good they have been this year. While they are waiting, they can also enjoy various Christmas activities, such as making a traditional toy or Christmas decoration, taking part in a sweet-making workshop and other surprises that you will find in this little slice of Lapland in Madrid.
