Two original programmes to make the most out of Puente de Mayo (May Day public holiday) in Madrid

By | 24 April, 2019 | 0 comments

If you couldn’t make the most of Holy Week to escape and disconnect from your daily routine, then Puente del Mayo is the perfect time to do it. If you’ve chosen Madrid, then you’re in luck because we’re bringing you two fun and original programmes that won’t disappoint. Do you want to discover them?

Feria Medieval_ok

Feria Medieval El Álamo (El Álamo Medieval Festival)

From 1 to 5 May you can travel back in time and enjoy this medieval festival that takes place in the municipality of El Álamo and involves plenty of activities. One of the most popular is the Torneo de Justas (Jousting Tournament), in which 16 horsemen and five horses lead an entertaining horse show inspired by jousting—a practice that was banned by the Catholic Church in the 15th century.

As is traditional at medieval festivals, you can’t miss the Medieval Market where you can taste and buy typical products from the area such as cheeses and cold meats, breads and desserts, and honeys and spices, among other culinary delicacies. You can also find master craftspeople who will create different products from pottery, precious metals and wood using techniques from that period. You can also enjoy some delicious food in the taverns and eateries in Plaza de Aveizieux. The programme includes concerts, parades, batucadas (Afro-Brazilian dances with percussion instruments) and activities for the whole family.

Juego de Tronos el Reto (The Game of Thrones Challenge)

15 April was the date selected to broadcast the last season of Game of Thrones. If you’re a fan of this series, you can’t miss out on this real experience which is being organised for the first time by España Vodafone and HBO España. You can visit it from 26 April to 5 May at Centro Comercial La Gavia.

This activity is divided into three areas. The first is the Exhibition Area where you’ll find seven display cabinets with the most iconic objects from Game of Thrones. The second is known as the Challenge Zone, which has three escape rooms set in Winterfell, King’s Landing and Dragonstone. In teams of four to six players, you’ll be able to live different experiences from the series.

Finally, there’s the Photo Opportunity area, where you can become your favourite character from the series, take a photo with a life-size replica of Drogon or sit on the famous iron throne and become the King of the Seven Kingdoms for a day.

Which programme will you do? We’ll do them both.
