Tour around Madrid’s budget bars
Madrid offers a whole host of culinary attractions for all tastes and budgets. In today’s post, we’re going on a tour of some of Madrid’s budget bars with excellent value for money. Fancy joining us?
Famous for serving one of the best omelettes in Madrid, this bar within the Mercado de la Paz has been included in the Europe Cheap Eats 2020 listing by the Opinionated About Dining website. It’s widely renowned for its authentic market cuisine, prepared every day with produce from the neighbouring stalls. But, as we mentioned at the beginning, the potato omelette is the star dish. Every day they make around four hundred, with Agria potatoes from Castilla-La Mancha or Galicia and eggs from the stall next door. Its menu is complemented by other delicious tapas such as croquettes, meatballs or marinated dogfish.
The second and latest Marid restaurant to appear on the Opinionated About Dining list is Chuka Ramen Bar. It serves a fusion of iconic dishes like ramen and various forms of dim sum. The best thing about this restaurant is that you can savour dishes such as Japanese noodles or pork belly with spring onions, among others. It goes without saying that you’ll enjoy a delicious meal at a very affordable price.
Nestled in the San Blas neighbourhood, the Cervecería Los Amigos is a traditional bar that serves high-quality homemade fare. Savour a well-pulled beer (and, of course, budget-friendly) accompanied by a mouthwatering – and very generously sized – tapa. A great choice if you’re looking for a friendly family-run bar with dishes like grandma used to make.
In the heart of the Lavapiés neighbourhood is this pocket-sized restaurant with mind-blowing cuisine. Characterised by a cultural diversity, signature dishes include the jabuguita pibil, prawn gyozas, free-range chicken cachopo or chickpea tajine. Casa Pachuco always uses locally sourced and high-quality products, so it’s a must-visit on your trip to Madrid.
Four amazing eateries with quality cuisine but suitable for all budgets.
