PhotoEspaña se sumerge en Latinoamérica

By | 2 June, 2015 | 0 comments

photo espana 2015The classic multi-space photography exhibition in Madrid is going to immerse itself in Latin America for its 18th edition, following the trend from last year to have a geographical theme for each edition. Let’s see some of the proposals that are part of the official section.

One of them is “Print and detonate. Photography in Mexico ca. 2015’, which offers a vision of the deep social and political transformations that the country has endured in the last few years through a selection of excellent photos by local photographers. You can see it at CentroCentro Cibeles, Plaza de Cibeles, 1, from Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00am until 8.00pm. Entry is free.

Another interesting exhibition is the trip through the lense of Enrique Meneses in ‘Enrique Meneses. The life of a reporter’, which pays tribute to this leading Spanish documentary photographer who died in 2013. Meneses became a vocational reporter at an early age and through his lense he photographed people like Fidel Castro and Che Guevera in the historical context of Sierra Maestra. His is a style of photography that goes for the essence and that includes photojournalism landmarks such as the famous March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and portraits of different celebrities, from Dalí to Paul Newman. Visit it at Sala Canal de Isabel II, Calle Santa Engracia, 125. Check timetable here.

And we will finish this brief review of some of the many proposals of PhotoEspaña with ‘Korda, femenine portrait’, which can be seen at the Cerralbo Museum on Calle Ventura Rodríguez, 17. Known for his world-famous portrait of Che Guevara, the Cuban photographer Albert Díaz Gutiérrez, aka Korda, was passionate about feminine beauty, to which he dedicated many photographs throughout his long career. His work in the field of advertising – Korda Agency- allowed him to develop this theme in more depth, which now can be seen as a compilation.
