Three suggestions for beating the heat in Madrid

By | 19 May, 2023 | 0 comments

The heat has arrived in Madrid, and although summer has not officially started yet, it seems that it is here to stay. That’s why, in today’s post, we present you with three suggestions to help you cool off during this hot weather.

Madrid Río beach

At the end of April, Madrid City Council decided to open the urban “beach” in Madrid Río. This area with water jets will be open throughout the summer from 11 am to 9 pm. It is perfect for the youngest members of the family, who can put on their swimsuits and flip-flops and play among the fountains, while parents can relax in the shade of the trees.

Municipal pools in Madrid

Normally, the swimming pools belonging to the City of Madrid and the Community of Madrid open to the public on 13 May. However, this year they decided to open earlier because of the heatwave that hit this spring. Our favourites are Parque Deportivo Puerta de Hierro, with three pools and a beach volleyball area; Instalaciones Deportivas Canal de Isabel II, whose outdoor pool is the best way to cool off if you are in the city centre; and Centro Deportivo Municipal Casa de Campo, whose Lago pool is still one of the most popular, with a children’s pool and other gay-friendly pools.

Brunch and cocktails at Oroya Restaurant

A journey to Peru by the famous Peruvian chef Diego Muñoz. This restaurant features extensive natural vegetation that provides a perfect escape from the heat of the day. Don’t miss the Costa y Montaña brunch. The menu includes sharing starters such as chicken causa, ocopa with fried cheese, classic ceviche and choritos a la chalaca, and main courses such as Angus picaña with arequipa beans, aticuchera mushroom parmentier and mustard, pork belly and squid with Andean chimichurri. To finish, don’t miss desserts such as alfajor fino de guanábana or suspiro limeño en texturas. You can enjoy these dishes every Saturday from 1 pm to 5 pm.

In the afternoon and evening, you can’t leave without enjoying the Pisco Bar, where the main protagonist is, of course, the Pisco, the Peruvian drink par excellence.

Three suggestions not to be missed if you want to escape the heat that has gripped Madrid.
