Now that the hot temperatures have finally arrived, it’s time to enjoy the bar terraces, picnics in El Retiro and ice creams. La Romana.

Travel to Italy without leaving the city by sampling one of the ice creams at La Romana. This ice cream shop chain was founded in 1947 by the Zucchi family in the centre of Rimini, Italy. They make their ice creams every day using fresh ingredients like they used to 50 years ago. With over 70 different flavours to choose from, if you are struggling to pick one we recommend the Mascarpone with coffee and chocolate fondant. Simply delicious! In Madrid, you can find them on Paseo de la Habana, 27 and Calle San Bernardo, 96.

Rocambolesc.

Haute cuisine by Jordi Roca in the shape of an ice cream. This laboratory of flavours, colours and mixtures is the ideal place for foodies. The excellence of this ice cream lies not only in its flavour but also in its presentation. Remember to try the original lactic ice cream, the coconut sorbet with violet or the famous panet, a brioche filled with ice cream. You can find it on the seventh floor of the El Corte Inglés department store on Calle Serrano.

La Pecera.

Even if they say so themselves, La Pecera is much more than an ice cream shop. This is the most original proposal on the list, famous for its homemade taiyaki ice creams. Its success lies in its ice cream waffle cone in the shape of a fish. Choose your favourite flavour and complete it with fun toppings such as caramelised popcorn or cotton candy. It is located in the heart of Malasaña, on Calle Valverde, 2.

Freddo Freddo.

This ice cream shop originates from Ischia, an island just off Naples, and has been open in Madrid for over 40 years offering a wide range of ice creams which combine traditional Italian recipes with the best Spanish and Argentine cuisine. Among its over 50 flavours you can find limoncello and caipirinha ice creams. If you are trying to eat healthily, you can try their range of diet ice creams. Enjoy them all at Calle Pedro Damián, 15.

Kalúa.

Its founder is also Italian and he opened his first ice cream shop in Buenos Aires in the 80s. Its letter of presentation is a wide range of ice creams made daily with the best products, creating unique flavours and textures. Find it on Calle Fuencarral, 131, in Madrid.
