Five ways to enjoy Madrid on a rainy day

Stroll around the food markets

Enjoying the best of Madrid’s gastronomy is possible even on rainy days. There are two food markets in Madrid: Mercado de San Miguel, in the heart of the city centre, and Mercado de San Antón, in the Chueca neighbourhood. Both offer a wide variety of cuisine to suit everyone’s taste. San Antón also has an impressive terrace where you can enjoy the Madrid skyline and cuisine with Atlantic influences.

Afternoon at the museums

Madrid is home to some of the best museums in the world. Make the most of a rainy afternoon to enjoy the best works of art at the Prado, Reina Sofía, CaixaForum or Thyssen. There are also other more family-friendly options, such as the Sweet Space Museum, the National Museum of Natural Sciences or the House Museum of Mouse Perez.  Some of these museums offer free admission at certain times of the day, which you can check on their websites. 

See a film at an alternative cinema

Madrid has many alternative cinemas that you won’t find in other cities. Cine Doré is one of them. Here you can see the best auteur films in the history of cinema. Other places not to be missed are Cines Renoir, where you can see films in their original version, Sala Equis and Cineteca. 

Hot chocolate and churros

Indoor shopping

Madrid has a large number of shopping centres for a day’s shopping on a rainy day. Don’t miss the new Oasiz Madrid shopping centre, which also has a food market, or the famous Las Rozas Village outlet.
