Madrid’s Little Italy

By | 21 September, 2020 | 0 comments

One of New York’s most popular neighbourhoods is Little Italy, a place where you can enjoy the best Italian cuisine and immerse yourself in Italian culture. But you don’t need to travel thousands of miles to get to know our Italian neighbours better, since we have our own little Italy in Madrid. Do you want to take a trip with us?

Lauricca, a grocery store with a history

Our first stop is a traditional grocer’s called Lauricca. Its owner, Ignazio, is following in the footsteps of his grandmother, who had a similar business in Sardinia. His shop sells traditional Italian products: delicious cheeses like pecorino or parmesan, and sausages like mortadella, as well as other gourmet products.

Italian Mercato and Nonsolocaffé

Mercato Italiano

On Wednesdays at the Mercato italiano and on Thursdays at Nonsolocaffé  you can get a great Italian aperitivo for about 10 euros. A range of cheeses, cold cuts, pasta and pizza with a refreshing Aperol Spritz. In the Mercato italiano you can also buy the best Italian products, and Nonsolocaffé offers some amazing pasta dishes.

La Saletta

This bar, located in the Antón Martín market, is a favourite of Italians living in Madrid. They serve an authentic porchetta, rolled with spices and baked for over four hours. They also serve pizzas, made using a dough fermented for over 48 hours and fresh products from the market itself.

Fratelli Figurato

The most essential part of Italian cuisine is definitely pizza,  and this restaurant serves the best Neapolitan pizzas. There are several types of dough to choose from (wholewheat, five cereals or traditional) and quality ingredients. If you want to try a more unusual choice, try the roasted head meat and crispy bacon pizza.

Sani Sapori

We end our tour of Madrid’s little Italy at the Sani Sapori ice cream parlour. Their Ice creams are made using fresh, organic milk and cream, and organic, fair trade cane sugar. They also have some vegan ice creams.

Enjoy Madrid’s little Italy, and some of the best food the country has to offer. And if you’re looking for accommodation in Madrid, don’t miss out on our fantastic deals.
